First SIGGS 3.0 Multiplier successfully organised

On 18 September, the EOC EU Office successfully hosted an engaging online webinar titled "Support the Implementation of Good Governance in Sport." The event served as a platform for discussing recent advancements, ongoing challenges, and emerging opportunities in the realm of governance within the sports sector.

The webinar began with a keynote address by Antoine Duval, Senior Researcher at the Asser Institute. Duval underscored the pressing need for sports organisations to confront and address governance issues proactively. He warned that persistent misconduct could result in stricter restrictions on sports autonomy, emphasising the importance of adherence to robust governance practices.

Following Duval's keynote, James Carr, Deputy Executive Director from the Association of Summer Olympic International Federations (ASOIF), shared valuable insights from the Fifth Governance Review. Carr highlighted how International Sport Federations are adapting and evolving to meet elevated governance standards. His presentation illustrated the ongoing efforts and improvements being made within these organisations to enhance their governance frameworks.

The webinar concluded with an update from the EOC EU Office on the SIGGS 3.0 self-evaluation tool for good governance. Scheduled for launch in December 2024, SIGGS 3.0 will provide sports organisations with a comprehensive framework for assessing their governance practices. The tool will offer detailed status assessments, guidance for improvement, and tailor-made action plans, complete with examples of best practices. The introduction of SIGGS 3.0 aims to support organisations in strengthening their governance structures and achieving higher standards of transparency and accountability.

The event not only highlighted the current state of governance in sport but also provided practical resources and insights to help organisations navigate and enhance their governance practices. The EOC EU Office extends its gratitude to all participants and speakers for their contributions and looks forward to the continued development and impact of SIGGS 3.0 in promoting good governance across the sports sector.
