FIRST EXECUTIVE BOARD MEETING OF THE CONFERENCE ON THE FUTURE OF EUROPE

FIRST EXECUTIVE BOARD MEETING OF THE CONFERENCE ON THE FUTURE OF EUROPE

On 24 March 2021, the Executive Board of the Conference on the Future of Europe (CoFoE) held its first constitutive meeting in Brussels and gathered David Sassoli (European Parliament President), Portuguese Prime Minister Antonio Costa (Council Presidency) and Ursula von der Leyen (European Commission President).

Two weeks after the Joint Declaration on the CoFoE was signed, the Executive Board took several initial steps:

- the multilingual Digital Platform mentioned in the Joint Declaration will be launched on 19 April 2021 to allow Europeans to have their say on European policy agenda without further delay;

- depending on restrictions imposed due to Covid-19, the first formal conference could take place in Strasbourg on 9 May 2021;

- the Charter for citizen’s participation was discussed. Once finalized, other European, national, regional or local authorities, as well as civil society and other organisations will be able to organize conferences and events in order to involve as many Europeans as possible and invite them to express their views on key topics. Of course, this can also be a way for sport organisations to express their views.

Further discussions will take place on 7 April 2021 during the Executive Board meeting.

The EOC EU Office will follow the discussions and developments on the CoFoE, and monitor the possibilities for sport organisations to get involved in the process.
