In his 2017 State of the Union address, President of the European Commission Juncker declared: “If we want more stability in our neighbourhood, then we must also maintain a credible enlargement perspective for the Western Balkans”.

The European Commission has published its 4th Flash Eurobarometer on “European Youth”. The report aims to analyse the answers given by 10 927 respondents aged 15-30. The survey is designed to collect information on young EU citizens regarding their social involvement. Among other questions, their participation in voluntary activities is addressed.

On 31 January 2018, Commission published the mid-term evaluation of the Erasmus+ programme, which gives as an overall very positive view on the EU’s flagship programme for education, training, youth and sport for 2014-2020. The programme has been highly beneficial to its participants, not only as facilitating their employment, but also as promoting the feeling of being an EU citizen.

As announced on its 2016 VAT action Plan, the European Commission published a proposal to review the Value Added Tax (VAT) Directive.

The objectives of this proposal are both to offer more flexibility to Member States as well as to establish a uniform structure in which Members States can set their own VAT rates.
