THE DIGITAL GREEN CERTIFICATE TAKING SHAPE

THE DIGITAL GREEN CERTIFICATE TAKING SHAPE

With summer approaching, the Digital Green Certificate (Green Pass), proposed by the European Commission in March 2021, is eagerly awaited to facilitate safe and free movement around Europe. The official launch of the document, which will be in digital or paper form, and will attest that a person has been vaccinated against coronavirus, has a recent negative test result or has recovered from the virus, is expected for the end of June with technical prerequisites already available by the beginning of June. The certification system is believed to save the holiday season and the tourism sector. France, Malta and the Netherlands are among the countries piloting the EU’s pass.

Vice-President for Values and Transparency, Věra Jourová said: “The Digital Green Certificate offers an EU-wide solution to ensure that EU citizens benefit from a harmonised digital tool to support free movement in the EU.”

Nevertheless, the Italian National Green Pass will precede the European Green Pass in the second half of May, and allow mobility between Italian regions. Serbia also launched its digital green certificate, Croatia announced the successful test of its version and Hungary will launch a vaccination app.

Already for the Easter holidays did Denmark introduce its “Coronapas” vaccine passport which was considered a hallmark towards a new reality.

Whether it is for traveling or attending big events, it is safe to say that the Green Pass will become a companion.
